Getting Started with Chromebooks

Chromebook Facts

  1. Chromebooks are very fast, have very long battery life, startup in a matter of seconds, and cost less than half of the cost of an iPad.
  2. Chromebooks don’t interrupt the user with Software updates. They are not vulnerable to viruses or malware.
  3. You cannot install software on a Chromebook.
  4. You need a account in order to log in. You can browse as guest, but you will not be able to save anything.
  5. Students can log into on any Chromebook and get the identical experience. They can also log into Learn34 using the Chrome web browser on Mac or Windows.
  6. Closing the lid will log the user out.
  7. Google documents auto-save every few seconds, so you are safe to quickly close the lid and put the Chromebook away.
  8. Thousands of Educational Web-Apps are available through the Chrome App Store.
  9. Chromebooks do not print directly to printers the same way as other computers do. They print using a Google Cloudprint Server. This poses some significant challenges for schools. At this time, SD34 has not set up printing on Chromebooks. Paperless workflows are easily achieved through the use of Google Classroom.
